The perfect ‘Mix’ of quality fare, convenience

Nestled beneath Safeway on South Beretania Street is the perfect spot for a quick lunch or dinner. Presenting an inviting atmosphere, Asian Mix serves up a menu that includes just that: a mix of Asian goodies influenced by Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese and local cultures.

Two very popular dishes at Asian Mix right now are its Mongolian Beef ($9.95) and BBQ Pork and Ginger Chicken on Rice ($9.50).

“The Mongolian Beef is one of the top-10 popular dishes. We give a lot of beef, and for the price you pay, you almost get a full box of beef,” explains owner Daniel Leung.

This beef dish features a lot of green onions and is mixed with oyster sauce, some sugar, soy sauce and a pinch of salt. “It’s heavily based on the green onions stir fried with the beef, which really makes the flavor,” says Leung. Asian Mix’s Mongolian Beef is full of flavor and will have your mouth watering as soon as you open your plate lunch.

The BBQ Pork and Ginger Chicken on Rice is big enough for two. Served on an almost overflowing plate are steamed vegetables surrounding the meat, all of which lies on top of rice. The aromas of barbecue and ginger will quickly fill your nose and trigger your taste buds to crave both meats at once.

“Our pork is really tender; we sell a lot every day,” says Leung. “The ginger chicken sauce is also really special — sometimes people come in and just buy the sauce alone,” he adds.

Asian Mix prides itself on giving really generous portions. With lunch and dinner options, the eatery also is able to cater your next party. Not only is there delicious food, but its location offers lots of covered seating outdoors, so even on a warm day, you can enjoy a cool breeze with your hot meal.

“I like that we’re in a really good location,” shares Leung. “We’re central, in a new building, have easy access to the highway, and there’s lots of parking,” he notes.
