A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: Sashimi Special ($16 regular, $17 with miso soup and rice)

At the far end of Kapalama Shopping Center is a place where fresh fish meets spry vegetables. What is this place you ask? None other than Ahi & Vegetable. This eatery — with a second location in Fort Street Mall — offers a wide variety menu of the freshest fish dishes with an extra dose of benefits for your body.

This week, we feature its most popular dish: Sashimi Special ($16). A generous serving of lettuce and shredded carrots is served below an even more generous helping of ahi tuna, salmon and hamachi. For an extra dollar, customers are served miso soup and their choice of either steamed, sushi or brown rice.

The lettuce used is one of many local, fresh vegetables that appear in Ahi & Vegetable’s smorgasbord of a menu.

The restaurant offers four types of salad dressing: mild, spicy, ranch and vinaigrette. The mild dressing is a special mix of peanut butter, sesame dressing, mayo and the eatery’s own secret ingredients.

Every day, owner Sam Seo buys fresh catches at the local fish auction and later cuts them at the restaurant. “It’s an affordable price for good-quality fish,” Seo says. And good quality it is. With the dish’s popularity growing to more than 50 orders per day, fish lovers get their chance to feast on this ultimate seafood platter.
