With the food truck scene still booming, Five Star Shrimp delivers a menu that exceeds the expectations of its small cooking quarters. The bright blue mobile kitchen, parked at the corner of Kapahulu and Kaimuki streets, stands out almost as much as the establishment’s delicious plate lunches. With the recent addition of its delivery services, Five Star Shrimp hopes to cater to the local community as well as continue to serve the tourists that flock from Waikiki and Leonard’s Bakery — located right down the street. A medley of “secret stuff” is added, along with heavy cream and white wine, creating a thick, fiery sauce you’ll want to drink after all the pieces of shrimp are gone.
Chili flakes give the recipe its kick, without burning the tongue — unless so requested.
Garlic is tossed in a pan before large shrimp — supplied by local vendors — are added.
