A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S SPECIAL: Stuffed Cabbage ($12.50, only offered on the Thursday Special menu)

If you’re a New Eagle Cafe veteran, you may recall the renovations that took place in November 2013. As the Nimitz Highway eatery’s ceilings and booths sparkle with luster, the food remains timelessly delicious. Locals are familiar with the establishment’s Prime Rib (price varies) and the Oxtail Soup with Rice ($13.25), but the unsuspected comfort dish of Stuffed Cabbage truly is a nostalgic treat.

First things first, the cabbage is stuffed with a gargantuan meatball ai??i?? literally a ball of meat with approximately 2-inches of beef! Chopped white onions and corn are added to the stuffed cabbage filling, and to season, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce are the perfect complements. A layer of steamed cabbage is wrapped around the meatball and then smothered in ladles of secret red sauce. The dish is a simplified version of the Eastern European recipe, still doused in a house-made tangy, tomato sauce ai??i?? a secret concoction.
