At Formaggio Wine Bar there’s an intimate atmosphere for diners looking to indulge in an extensive selection of libations and unforgettable food.

Wine aficionados can choose from more than 80 vino offerings, as well as an eclectic menu of eats that owner Niraj Maskey aptly describes as “fusion food.” The restaurant’s curry, for instance, is inspired by Nepal, where Maskey is originally from. Other items include anything from Italian favorites such as pizza and pasta, to tacos and a sizeable dessert menu.

Located in Market City Shopping Center, Formaggio offers ample parking and live music six nights a week. Plus, the dimly lit cavernous room lends itself well to convivial gatherings for large groups or romantic meals for two.

The restaurant recently launched a few specials, which include Seafood Linguine with Tomato Cream Sauce ($15.99). Mussels, shrimp, calamari and scallops are expertly cooked and combined with a tomato cream sauce. Made with basil, the sauce is savory and refreshing, complementing the seafood perfectly.

On Formaggio’s regular menu, sample Pizza Puttanesca ($13.99).

This dish is one of the lesser-known items on the menu, but once customers give it a try, Maskey says it’s love at first bite.

The personal-sized pie is topped with tomatoes, black olives, capers, artichoke and oregano. Diners also may request to add anchovies, which really enhance the pizza with briny flavor.

Be sure to stop in for Formaggio’s happy hour, which takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and again from 10 to 11 p.m. Happy hour specials include Mini Wild Mushroom Pizza ($5.50), Chicken Curry Bowl ($7.50) and Turkey Pesto Panini ($5.95), among others.

Looking to elevate your knowledge of wine? Formaggio will host a wine tasting Dec. 18. For reservations, Maskey recommends calling Fujioka’s Wine Times (located next door) at 739-9463.

And for those in the midst of planning holiday parties, Maskey says the restaurant can host large groups.
