The first of its kind in Mililani, Rise and Shine Cafe offers what many other places in the area cannot: a cozy breakfast nook for families and friends to spend mornings together.

Husband-and-wife duo Scott and Lauren Pfeiffer opened the restaurant in the new complex of commercial space recently completed in Mililani Mauka.

Its sunny sign is reflective of the warm atmosphere found within and the couple’s goal to provide customers with a good time.

“(We are) a nice, family-run restaurant that has fresh food and friendly service,” says Lauren.

Named by the couple’s 12-year-old daughter, it took approximately a year of planning for the first-time restaurant owners before Rise and Shine opened June 4.

It’s not just breakfast (and fresh-baked cinnamon rolls and desserts) they’re serving either. Rise and Shine serves lunch until 3 p.m.

If you do happen to stop in during its breakfast hours and are in need of a well-balanced sugar rush to ignite your day, start with the Fresh Berries & Whipped Cream French Toast ($10.95). Sweet bread French toast is topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries as well as whipped cream. A fruit cup also accompanies the dish.

A more savory morning option is the Corned Beef Hash Eggs Benedict ($10.95, half order; $13.95, full order). Like many of its dishes, the restaurant makes almost everything in-house. The corned beef hash is made daily, as well as the hollandaise sauce that tops the Eggs Benedict. Breakfast potatoes also come with the meal.

The eatery’s lunch menu features primarily sandwiches and salads, such as the Apple Chicken Salad ($10.95). A spring mix is topped with grilled chicken breast, then tossed with green apples, toasted walnuts, blue cheese crumbs and a house-made roasted garlic vinaigrette (all its dressings are made in-house as well).

A board located at the front of the restaurant lists daily specials. One special, Furikake Crusted Fresh Fish Plate ($13.95), will remain a staple for the restaurant after customers requested a plate-lunch style option. Rise and Shine Cafe uses fresh fish obtained daily. The furikake-crusted fish also comes with a garden salad and brown or white rice.

One bit of news: Rise and Shine will begin serving breakfast until noon Sundays to cater to after-church and midday crowds looking for a relaxing weekend brunch.

It’s time to start your day the right way at an amazing, new breakfast spot.
