Whether in need of a sweet treat for yourself, an upcoming celebration or someone special, Larry’s Bakery in Salt Lake offers a great assortment of pastries, cookies, cakes, breads, pies and more.

Among the popular pastries is Cinnamon Twist ($1.75), which is an original recipe by the bakery’s founder Larry Yafuso. Cinnamon Twist features a flaky interior, but is also crunchy and chewy in certain areas. It’s available every day at the bakery, as well as at the Momilani Farmer’s Market in Pearl City every Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

In the mood for cake? Try Guava Chiffon ($15.50 for 8-by-8 size), made with white chiffon cake, homemade whipped cream and guava filling. It’s also available in a smaller half-size ($9), or as a fourth-sheet, half-sheet or full-sheet.

And the perfect treat for any occasion, especially as party favors, gift of thanks or for grandparents on Grandparents Day (Sept. 8), are the assorted decorated Shortbread Cookies (ranging in price from $1.50 to $4.50, depending on size and details). Hand-decorated by co-owner Iris Yafuso-Toguchi, the cookies come in many different designs, such as farm animals, flowers, the popular honu or a three-inch round cookie with the words “Happy Birthday” and a mustache. There are also holiday-specific designs, such as pumpkins, skulls and cross-bones for Halloween.

Larry’s also offers a great fundraising opportunity for groups trying to raise money, such as sports teams, youth groups, church groups, hula halaus, schools, and even companies raising money for charity. Items available for fundraising include breads (Cinnamon and Soft Cottage Bread), loaf cakes (Pineapple Macadamia Nut, Chocolate and Lilikoi), as well as Chocolate Brownie Packs and Orange Chiffon Cake.

Known for its old-school scratch baking, Larry’s Bakery opened 53 years ago in Waimalu Shopping Center before relocating to Salt Lake 15 years ago and adding a storefront four years ago. The family-run business prides itself on its history and continues to bake many of its original recipes, however, it also knows how important it is to keep up with the times and trends. The bakery will be closed from Oct. 6 to 14, so employees can attend a baking convention in Las Vegas, where they’ll get to see the latest and greatest in the baking world, and possibly bring home some new ideas. Also, follow Larry’s Bakery on Instagram and Facebook for updates and specials.
