After receiving a trio of commendations from its loyal customers, Zippy’s Restaurants are rewarding diners with a slew of summer specials.

Zippy’s was honored recently in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser‘s annual Hawaii’s Best People’s Choice Awards for serving up the “Best Family Dining,” representing the “Best Late-Night Eatery” and offering up the “Best Bento,” the latter of which recognizes the restaurant’s iconic Zip Pac. As a special mahalo to loyal diners who voiced their opinions, Zippy’s is offering a “Thank You Hawaii” promotion, wherein customers may enter to win a trip for two to Las Vegas, and a consolation prize of a month’s worth of Zip Pacs. No purchase is necessary when entering to win, and entries can be submitted at all restaurant locations or by visiting Zippys.com for more details.

“We know our customers love Vegas, so we are featuring a Vegas giveaway!” says Jeanine Mamiya-Kalahiki, marketing manager at Zippy’s Restaurants. “We also wanted to offer one of our old-time favorites, Hamburger Steak, at a special price. We now have a new and improved hamburger steak, and have already received great feedback from customers.”

Mamiya-Kalahiki refers to the local staple as the revamped Hamburger Steak with rice and macaroni salad ($6.99 at the fast-food counter and $7.99 in the dine-in restaurant), which is available at these special prices through July. Diners also may reach for Zippy’s Primeburger with French Fries for just $4.99 (fast-food) and $6.99 (restaurant) throughout the month.

Zippy’s also is featuring a pair of new salads — the perfect remedy for the summer heat and hunger waves available now through Aug. 31 for $10.95 apiece in the dine-in restaurants only. The new Chopped Salad includes crisp romaine lettuce, chopped ham, turkey, tomatoes, garbanzo beans, mozzarella cheese and green onions along with a tasty Parmesan and herb dressing that ties all the flavors together. Diners also may delve into a freshly made Chili Lime Shrimp Salad, which features golden breaded shrimp atop a bed of ‘Nalo Zip greens along with tomato wedges, saimin noodles, julienne-cut carrots and cucumbers, and Chinese parsley. The new salad selection is served with a zesty chili lime dressing.

“We wanted to offer our customers something different, another option and something refreshing,” explains Mamiya-Kalahiki when describing the fresh salad options. “The seasonal salads change every two months, so we can provide freshness to our menu.”

Generations of diners have flocked to Zippy’s in pursuit of delectable desserts, and the eatery has created yet another masterpiece in Haupia Chocolate Waffle ($6.85 at dine-in restaurants only). Through July and August, customers can enjoy this local spin on a traditional breakfast favorite as the dish includes a scoop of ice cream atop a crisp Belgian waffle along with haupia sauce, chocolate syrup and whipped cream. While the sweet treat is great to share with friends and family gathered around the table, it is understandable if one chooses to fly solo and polish off the entire serving.

In addition to offering summer savings, Zippy’s Restaurants is lending support to Blood Bank of Hawaii, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe and adequate supply of blood, blood products and related trans-fusion services to patients in the Islands. Customers may help the vital cause by picking up a Kokua Pac ($8.08 fast-food, $9.30 dine-in restaurant), from which 25 cents will be donated to the Blood Bank of Hawaii’s effort to raise funds for a new Bloodmobile. Additionally, customers may purchase a special donation circle for $1, or make an additional monetary donation at designated boxes at all Zippy’s locations.

Diners in the 50th state soon will be able to visit a 25th Zippy’s Restaurant, as Hilo prepares to open the doors to the Big Island’s first establishment Aug. 1. The new location supplements Zippy’s collection of 23 Oahu eateries and Kahului, Maui, restaurant — many of which are open 24 hours to meet the dining desires of any consumer. From its famous chili to flavorful Zip Pacs, Zippy’s continues to serve up local comfort food around the clock while striving to live up to its “Hawaii’s Best” distinctions.
