The curtains at the historic Waikiki 3 Theater have remained closed since the iconic building ceased operations more than a decade ago, but the show does indeed go on for fans of savory surf ‘n turf selections at Atlantis Seafood & Steak.

Located conveniently on bustling Kalakaua Avenue amid a unique shopping destination, kamaaina can catch some of Waikiki’s freshest seafood and succulent steak selections as fresh island flavors served with aloha allow diners to truly rediscover Waikiki.

As its name suggests, Atlantis is a hidden treasure surrounded by numerous retail establishments such as Ross, Victoria’s Secret, the Apple Store and more soon to come that help make the trip into Waikiki worth the while. According to restaurant manager Yolanda Millare, “We’re smack dab in the middle of Waikiki. It’s right in our front yard, and it’s an awesome place. Come on down and check it out!”

Whether one chooses to relax along the restaurant’s open-air lanai overlooking Waikiki’s busiest thoroughfare, or elects to dine in cool comfort amid the restaurant’s beautiful aquatic-themed decor, Atlantis’ ambiance sets the tone for a memorable dining experience.

When starting one’s Atlantis experience, diners are encouraged to dive in and try one of the menu’s new creations in California Shrimp Sandwich ($14.95). The brand-new addition features fresh, whole shrimp cooked to perfection and served on a sweet bun with crisp lettuce, cucumber and onions along with avocado and a tangy mango salsa that ties all the flavors together.

A crown jewel of Atlantis’ bountiful menu also happens to be one of the better deals around town — both above and below the sea. The eatery offers up Sizzling Garlic Rib Eye ($39.95), a mouth-watering 16 ounces of tender roasted rib eye served on a sizzling skillet and smothered in onions, garlic and herbs. Millare suggests sharing the dish, or if one is feeling adventurous, digging in and enjoying the full pound of steak as the alluring aroma is sure to hook the taste buds immediately.

“The garlic steak is one of our top sellers,” Millare says. “It comes out on a sizzling platter and once we bring one out, everyone looks around. And, usually tables sitting nearby end up ordering one too. It’s a great sharing steak, one whole pound, so two people can eat it.”

Hop aboard Atlantis’ visually-pleasing Seafood Boat ($39.95), as a giant clam shell is packed with fresh shucked oysters, tiger shrimp cocktail, crab claws, Manila clams and mussels.

Atlantis’ pasta dishes, as one might expect, come chock-full of delectable seafood and other fresh ingredients, and also draw rave reviews. Ocean Seafood Pasta ($28.95) offers diners a mountain of premium pasta doused in a rich basil tomato cream sauce and is brimming with fresh island fish, Manila clams, tiger shrimp and leeks.

Atlantis is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and serves up a variety of lunch specials through 4 p.m. Diners may indulge in Atlantis Fish & Chips ($11.95), Seafood Pasta ($13.95) and even Atlantis’ Loco Moco ($10.95). The eatery can also put an interesting spin on the aforementioned local favorite, which includes a hamburger patty covered with two eggs, as for just $2 more, the talented chefs prepare the Loco Moco atop a bed of pasta.

Early Bird Specials also reel in great value as from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., diners may choose from Sauteed Mahi with Lobster Sauce, Steak & Shrimp or Chicken Alfredo Pasta for just $12.95.

While Atlantis has established a loyal following with visitors from around the globe, from China to Europe, Millare hopes that locals will make the short trip into Waikiki to enjoy the ambience and electricity emanating from a revitalized Kalakaua Avenue and, especially, the eatery’s savory cuisine.

“For local people, if you haven’t come down to Waikiki in a while, a lot has changed,” Millare says. “You can get a little bit of everything right here at Atlantis. While you can’t catch a movie here anymore, you can catch some excellent, fresh seafood and steak.”

If venturing into Waikiki conjures up bad memories of past parking problems, fear not, as Atlantis offers three hours of free, validated parking by ProPark at Waikiki Parking Garage located conveniently behind the restaurant. The parking garage’s entrance is accessible off Seaside Avenue next to the new Ross location.

Atlantis Seafood & Steak also serves as a perfect venue in which to host a party or special event. Whether one is planning a birthday celebration or graduation party, Atlantis features space in both the main dining area as well as two private rooms to accommodate virtually any request. Those interested in booking a party are encouraged to call or speak in person with the restaurant’s friendly, knowledgeable staff who will help select menu options and the space desired.
