I’m not a morning person at all. So, if there’s ever a chance I can sleep in, maybe on the weekend or even a vacation, you can bet I’m doing just that.

But when I’m finally up and going, breakfast menus have been put away and restaurants are serving lunch. So, it was nice to learn that The Veranda at the legendary Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa in Waikiki has added some of its popular breakfast offerings to its lunch menu.

Available are the Superfood Omelet ($19) with fresh spinach, tomato, broccoli, onion and three cheeses, and served with skillet potatoes and toast; and the American Breakfast ($28) which is a complete meal consisting of two eggs any style, breakfast meat, skillet potatoes, toast, juice and coffee (upgrade to prime steak for $10). Both items also are available gluten-free.

“Given the area we are at, we are a destination spot, people are here on vacation and they like to stay in bed a little longer, sleep in and take in the day before they venture out,” says William Chen, chef de cuisine. “Also, hearing back from our guests and working with our staff, they’ve been asking for breakfast options or the opportunity to have breakfast later in the day at our properties, so it’s something we wanted to offer.”

The breakfast items at lunch were introduced about a month ago, and according to Chen, it’s clear there is a demand for it, which means more breakfast foods will soon be added to the menu. “It was something we knew our guests wanted, but we didn’t really know what sort of appeal it would have,” he says. “But since we’ve been doing it, we’ve been running out. It’s so surprising how many people are drawn to it.”

Of course, for those who aren’t craving a late breakfast, The Veranda’s regular lunch menu and famous afternoon tea with traditional scones, finger sandwiches and sweet pastries also can be enjoyed oceanside with a picturesque view of Waikiki Beach and the beautiful surroundings of the iconic Moana Surfrider.

Breakfast at The Veranda is served from 6 to 11 a.m., lunch and afternoon tea from noon to 3 p.m. Four-hour complimentary self and valet parking also is available.
