Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood Company continues to grow with a new food truck conveniently parked at the corner of Kapahulu and Kaimuki Avenues (across from Crane Park).

Known for its fresh fish and seafood plates at affordable prices, the new location will help to meet the needs of a growing following. The menu is filled with many local favorite dishes, such as Garlic Shrimp in mild, medium or spicy ($7.95 for six pieces or $10.95 for nine pieces), Grilled Steak with Onions ($7.95), Two-Egg Loco Moco ($7.95), Guava Marinated BBQ Chicken ($6.95), Pork Chop ($6.95) and more. Starting today, the menu will include the Triple Combo ($13.95) consisting of the eatery’s most popular orders — garlic shrimp, top sir-loin steak and a choice of fish (ahi, salmon or mahi mahi).

One of my favorites is Seafood Salad ($8.95) featuring fresh grilled ahi (choice of furikake or Hawaiian-style with salt and pepper), salmon and shrimp over a chopped green salad with onions, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, cabbage and carrots. There also are rotating daily specials, such as Ahi Belly, Pulehu Ribs and Fried Akule.

Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood Company serves breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., and the food truck is open until 10 p.m. The Kapahulu wagon has been open for about two months with Gilbert Sakaguchi Jr., a Kapiolani Community College Culinary Arts Program graduate, serving as general manager/operator. And unlike the typical mobile food truck, the new Kapahulu location has a covered seating area just steps away that can accommodate about 50 people.

Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood Company has been in business since 2005, and there are plans to open more locations, including food trucks on Kapiolani Boulevard and Ford Island within the next two months. There already are outlets in Haleiwa (next to the 76 gas station) and on Schofield, and a stand in the International Marketplace food court in Waikiki and in the Shirokiya food court at Ala Moana Center. The eatery also has built a customer base of Japanese tourists, and have opened two locations in Japan. Prices may vary per location, and season.
