It is the summer of specials at Canton Seafood Restaurant. It’s slashing prices faster than the car dealerships on Nimitz Highway. A recent special just so happens to be one of Canton Seafood’s most popular items — Fried Flounder with Seasoning Herbs. Normally on the menu for $15.99, this dish is being offered all day for $9.99. A whole flounder filet, this tasty Chinese dish is deep-fried and then seasoned with an assortment of herbs, including basil. It comes with rice and a variety of dipping sauce options. The flounder is sliced so that the delicious fish is easy to dig into.

Continuing to focus on fried foods, Canton Seafood’s half Fried Crispy Chicken, normally priced at $12.99, is available for only $4.99. The restaurant also offers more than 25 lunch and late-night specials priced between $5.99 and 7.99, including Crispy Gau Gee Mein served with six gau gee. Most of the lunch and late-night specials are served with rice and soup. Other items gaining popularity are Beef Chow Funn, Walnut Shrimp and Clams with Black Bean Sauce.

“Canton is the southern part of China. We serve Hong Kong-style food here — real Chinese style, not chop suey,” says assistant manager Peng Gong. “Our chef is from China. He used to be at Jade Dynasty before coming here.”

Lunch specials are served from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and late-night specials are available from 9 p.m. to midnight.
