The next time it’s got to be Chinese food and nothing else, you’ll be more than satisfied with the selection at Lung Fung Chinese Restaurant. Tucked away in Niu Valley Center, the ornately decorated eatery — complete with dragon and phoenix murals as well as wood carvings — has been a part of the East Oahu dining scene for more than 30 years. Manager Eddie Ma, who has overseen restaurant operations for the past decade, ensures that Lung Fung’s menu of Chinese classics remains fresh, flavorful and healthy.

For any first-timer, Ma recommends a best-seller: Kung Pao Chicken with Rice Noodles ($8.95). “This Kung Pao is a little sweet and spicy,” he says. “It’s a very popular sauce.” Chicken, peanuts, chili, green onion, garlic and wonderfully thick rice noodles absorb the bold sauce beautifully.

The menu also contains many fresh and healthy options such as Fish Filet with Choy Sum ($13.95). To make this delightful dish, flounder is sauteed with choy sum in a white sauce.

A large red-and-golden dining area gives the establishment a banquet-hall feel, and it comfortably seats around 150 people. Patrons may reserve the eatery’s private dining room as well. Lung Fung’s lavish setting is the perfect place to settle into for the luscious Chinese feast you’ve been craving.
