“It’s a refined yet casual lobby lounge,” explains John Hoffman, Beachhouse at the Moana’s outlet manager and sommelier. “We offer the Beachhouse menu, and we also have a smaller menu of select favorites that executive sous chef Norman Soderberg and I like to pair with wines.”

Their suggestions include the Filet Mignon beef tenderloin ($39 for 6 ounces, $54 for 10 ounces) paired with the Beachhouse Private Label Cabernet Sauvignon ($15 glass, $65 bottle), as well as the 2-pound lobster (market price) steamed and grilled to finish with lime butter and complemented with the Clos Le Vigneau Vouvray from France ($14 glass).

Situated inside the hotel’s main lobby of the Historic Wing beside the Grand Staircase, bin1901 is named after the commonly used Bottle Identification Number system used to locate bottles of wine in large cellars, and the “First Lady of Waikiki’s” (which the Moana Surfrider is often referred to as) inaugural year, 1901. Offering an extensive collection of more than 100 varieties of wine by the glass including rare selections of private reserves and limited releases, bin1901 launches a redefined wine and dine experience.

“In our collection, we also have our own Private Label Beachhouse cabernet sauvignon and riesling made exclusively for the Moana, some unique vintage champagnes and regional wines including Burgundy and Bordeaux,” adds Hoffman. “And the best part about bin1901 is the setting, being located in the Moana, it’s beautiful.”

In addition to the nightly dining menu from Beachhouse, chef Soderberg prepares an appetizer special for bin1901 available only on Wine Wednesdays. Also, each month a tasting menu featuring select wines will be available in 2-ounce flights providing an opportunity to experience several varieties without having to purchase a full glass or bottle. Guests will be able to order a trio of 2-ounce samples ranging from a variety of sparkling, red, white and dessert wines and creatively mix offerings by selecting three choices from the flight menu.

Complimentary valet parking is available and self-parking is $2 for four hours at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani.

Whether for dinner or just a “lite bite,” bin1901 is sure to be a sensory feast.
