For 10 years, this authentic Vietnamese restaurant enjoyed a long residency in Waikiki before moving to its current location in Aiea. With fresh ingredients and generous portions, you won’t find a more affordable Vietnamese hot spot.

One beefy meal the establishment offers is the Rice Plate with BBQ Beef Short Ribs ($10.50). A scrumptious alternative to kal-bi, the Vietnamese preparation used in this dish is one of many secret family recipes that owner Lien James adopted from her mother in Vietnam. Fresh vegetables and rice on the side complete the satisfying meal.

A refreshingly healthy option, Lemon Beef Salad ($9.95) consists of romaine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, toasted peanuts, fried onion flakes and parsley topped with slices of beef. The house-made marinade packs more flavor than you ever thought possible into the thinly sliced meat.

In addition to fresh vegetables that James and husband Walter gather weekly in Chinatown, their homemade fish sauce brings a delicious punch of flavor to all of Pho My Lien’s beefed up meals.

So, if you like beef, don’t fight, just find your way to Pho My Lien instead.
