Strolling through the crowds and stores at Ala Moana Center can work up quite the appetite. For those who simply cannot wait until they get home to eat, there is a delicious and healthy option located just adjacent to Macy’s.

California Wok has been serving the freshest in Chinese cuisine to Hawaii residents since 2001. The eatery makes a point of using only low-sodium soy sauces and 100 percent cholesterol-free canola oil in their edible creations — welcome news for the health-conscious crowd.

One restaurant dish that may make you stop in your tracks is Curry Chicken. Reasonably priced at $7.45 for the small portion and $10.49 for the large portion, the dish is filled with bell peppers, white onions, carrots and white meat chicken. More importantly, the ingredients form a nice, even blend of flavor and spice.

“There is a bit of spice, but not too much,” says owner Winnie Li. “It is a pretty new item, but just like everything else, it is very healthy and very popular.”

Curry Chicken is served with a side of white rice and a fortune cookie. California Wok is also more than willing to prepare a milder version of curry upon request.
