Mix Things Up at Rainbow Drive-In

Rainbow Drive-In offers a plate lunch to match its diverse arch of customers. Since 1961 Rainbow Drive-In has been serving hearty and affordable plate lunches to our local blue collar workers, business community, families and tourists who travel to Rainbow’s Kapahulu location — many because of the reputation the laid-back restaurant has acquired through decades of quality dedicated service.

Rainbow’s Mix Plate ($7.25) is a heaping meal of some of our favorite island tastes. The Mix Plate starts with a filet of ahi katsu, boneless chicken and a generous portion of barbecue steak. Served with two scoops of rice, one scoop mac salad and tartar sauce, the mix plate is enough to satisfy the hungriest of patrons, whether you are walking in from a hard day’s work or coming in right off the beach.

“I think it is so popular because you get to try everything. It is just a seller and everyone has their own way of making it unique by adding toppings like barbecue sauce or even chili.” says Rainbow Drive-In’s Christine Nakagawa. As prices in our slowly improving economy have risen Rainbow Drive-In has done its best to stick to the standards and values it opened the restaurant with many years ago.

“It has been hard but we always want to give our customers fast service, large portions and a good price so we try to hold on to those values,” says Pam Martin, who has been working at Rainbow Drive-In since 1983.
