We all know the challenge when it comes to joining the family or a group of friends for breakfast. Depending on the restaurant, the menu choices are usually meats, eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc., maybe with some fresh fruit on the side.
You want to go along with the crowd, but you keep a low-fat, meat-free diet. What to order?
IHOP may have the answer. It has recently added “Simple & Fit” choices to its menu, breakfast included, reflecting the change in eating habits as health-conscious diners tend toward a low-fat diet. The menu offers under-600 calorie versions of IHOP’s dishes and features tips on how to make your meals fit your nutrition goals.
IHOP Ala Moana Blvd. manager Letitia Richardson recommends the Simple & Fit Spinach, Mushroom, Tomato Omelette ($13.40, 330 calories) to veggie lovers. A popular choice, the omelette also includes onions and Swiss cheese.
“It’s made with egg substitute,” she says, “and comes with a fresh fruit bowl.” (Note to vegetarians and vegans: Egg substitute in this case is egg whites, which are cholesterol-free.)
The restaurant also accommodates substitutions, as many of its dishes do contain meat and meat products. IHOP will, for instance, take out the chicken in its Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad and lower the price to reflect that. And you can request a different dressing as well.
Freedom to choose is a great trend in dining, so why not take advantage and make your meal your very own.
