The words “healthy” and “pizza” normally don’t belong in the same sentence. But at Zpizza, these words are tossed around as frequently as its hand-made, 100-percent certified organic whole wheat pizza dough.

Founded under the guiding principles of creativity, originality and craftsmanship, Zpizza prides itself in being a leader in the pure food movement through its use of fresh, local ingredients and inspired flavor combinations.

It was only natural, then, that the Zpizza Hawaii ohana decided to take inspiration from its island home and put a local spin on the Zpizza menu.

“We wanted to feature a pizza that’s Hawaiian, a taste that is more familiar to locals and for visitors who desire to taste our local foods,” explains Cesar Llarenas, owner of the Zpizza Hawaii franchise.

What the restaurant came up with was the Hawaiian Pizza, a savory-sweet pizza made with Hawaiian luau plum sauce, kalua pork, caramelized onions, Chinese cabbage, fresh pineapple chunks and a garnishing of green onions — a concoction that epitomizes Hawaii and its melting pot of cultures and cuisine.

“The Hawaiian Pizza is by far one of my favorite pizzas,” Llarenas admits. “This is our local creation that is unique to Hawaii and was approved by the Zpizza corporate office for a limited-time offer this summer.”

The Hawaiian Pizza costs $12.95 for a small 10-inch pie, $23.95 large (14 inches) and $26.95 extra-large (18 inches).

“However, we are currently running a special,” Llarenas adds. “To encourage people to try this new local creation, we are offering a $5 off coupon for any extra-large pizza (to be used on their next visit) with the purchase of any size Hawaiian Pizza.”

To complete the meal, Llarenas suggests ordering the Pear & Gorgonzola Salad ($8.50 small, $10.95 large), a refreshing blend of mixed greens, fresh pear slices, gorgonzola cheese and candied walnuts tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

“The Pear & Gorgonzola Salad is my favorite salad, and a great way to start your meal,” he says. “It would go nicely with the Hawaiian Pizza.”

A 10-inch Apple Pie Pizza ($10.95), made with mascarpone cheese, Fuji apples, almonds, caramel sauce and powder sugar, also would pair nicely for dessert.

On the Side

While summer is a time to kick back and relax for many, for Zpizza Hawaii, the coming months will be filled with exciting offers and new menu items for customers to enjoy.

For starters, Zpizza is offering $5 off any extra-large pizza today in honor of Father’s Day. Regularly $26.95, the extra-large pies measure 18 inches in diameter and come loaded with a variety of toppings sure to satisfy the manliest of appetites. Other popular Zpizza creations Dad may want to try include the ZBQ (made with barbecue sauce, mozzarella, barbecue chicken, roasted peppers, red onions, tomatoes, fresh cilantro and sweet corn), Napoli (homemade roasted garlic sauce, mozzarella, fresh rounds of tomato, parmesan and fresh basil), California (organic tomato sauce, mozzarella, tomatoes, red onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, zucchini and black olives), Thai (peanut sauce, mozzarella, spicy chicken, red onions, cilantro, fresh bean sprouts and Serrano chilies) and the Tuscan (homemade roasted garlic sauce, mozzarella, caramelized onions, feta, truffle oil, fresh thyme and Cremini, Shiitake and Button mushrooms).

“Of course, if you order the extra-large Hawaiian Pizza, you will also receive a $5 off coupon for another extra-large pizza on your next visit in addition to the $5 off Father’s Day Special!” adds Zpizza Hawaii owner Cesar Llarenas.

The father of three grown sons says that next month Zpizza will be introducing a Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad, a refreshing medley available for a limited time throughout the summer.

“We also are a Hawaiian XtraMiles partner and are offering double miles (four miles per dollar) Monday through Thursday until the end of July for every dollar spent on a Hawaiian Airlines Visa card,” he adds, noting weekend customers will continue to earn two miles per dollar when using their Visas. And for those looking to host a get-together this summer and beyond, Zpizza offers catering options for any celebratory occasion.
