“Sixty-five years of sarap to the bones” is the slogan that defines Max’s of Manila, known for its famous fried chicken and other sarap (delicious) Filipino dishes. Considered a culinary landmark in the Philippines, Max’s has been feeding hungry diners for decades, and once you set foot in one of its island locations (along Dillingham Boulevard or at Waipahu Shopping Plaza), you’ll see, or rather taste, for yourself the utterly irresistible goodness that forces customers to come back for more.

  • Max's of Manila's Pinakbet ($8.95) is a house specialty.
  • Fish Filet in Black Beans ($11.50)
  • Sizzling Tofu ($7.95) features chopped onions, red and green bell peppers, and more served with Max's special sauce.

For instance, a couple of Max’s fresh favorites are Fish Filet in Black Beans and Sizzling Tofu. Priced at $11.50, the fish filet features a lightly breaded basa filet garnished with red peppers, spring onions and ginger strips — all doused in a flavorful black bean sauce. And for a reasonable price of $7.95, diners can enjoy a refreshing entree of Sizzling Tofu with chopped onions, red and green bell peppers, glazed with Max’s special sauce. This highly requested dish is served on a hot sizzling plate, topped with a hint of chili to give an extra kick to your taste buds.

A house specialty that’s simply delicious is Max’s Pinakbet ($8.95). This popular menu option presents diners with a tantalizing selection of mixed vegetables, including pumpkin, string beans and bitter melon, sauteed with tender pork and shrimp, and a house-made shrimp paste to boot.

Without a doubt, Max’s of Manila definitely knows how to cook it up Filipino-style!
