Sekiya’s Restaurant and Delicatessen in Kaimuki is the place for great local-style Japanese food — and has been for decades. Its extensive menu makes it easy to please any hungry diner, even if you choose to go meatless. A complete meal, it’s a healthy combination of tofu, Chinese peas, zucchini and shiitake mushrooms served with rice, miso soup, tsukemoto and Japanese tea.

“It’s really kind of popular,” says owner Joy Morihara. “People do order that a lot.”
