The Deal with Papaya Salad

Authentic Vietnamese cuisine has been filling the stomachs of pho enthusiasts islandwide since Pho My Lien’s opening last November in Aiea’s Westridge Shopping Center.

Known for its homemade pho or beef noodle soup, Pho My Lien is owned and operated by the husband-wife team of Tommy Dang and Lien Bui. They, along with executive chef Phuong Bo, have been producing top-notch pho at the affordable prices of $6.95 (regular portion) and $7.95 (large portion). Each order comes complete with savory broth and noodles, served with a tantalizing array of fresh mint leaves, bean sprouts, herbs, chili pepper, lemon and a special blend of sauces that mix perfectly with the pho itself.

Among the other dishes to grace the menu is the always delicious Papaya Salad, specially priced at only $4.99 throughout the month of February, when customers should present the special coupon found in Dining Out (original price is $7.50).

“The Papaya Salad can feed three to four people. We serve large portions here,” Dang says.

As a healthy alternative, this festive salad features shrimp, papaya, carrot, spinach and mint atop a bed of lettuce, dressed in Pho My Lien’s homemade sauce and a dash of vinegar.

“Customers can also substitute shrimp for chicken or tofu if they prefer,” Dang adds, noting the Papaya Salad offers the perfect blend of both salty and sweet.
