If you’re looking for upscale Chinese cuisine that falls into the category of “comfort food,” head to Seafood Village at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki.

Appetizers, salads, soups, fish, a fresh seafood selection, stir-fry specialties, sizzling platters and more fill the menu.

“We’ve been here for 15 years now, and here at Seafood Village it’s like having dinner in Hong Kong — but in Hawaii, at a place where friends gather,” says general manager Steven Matsuno. “Chinese food kind of lends itself well to help in bringing family and friends together for a good meal.”

Three local favorites include the 1 1/2-pound Country-style Crab with Black Bean Sauce ($49.95), Honey-Glazed Walnut Shrimp ($22.95) and Spicy Mongolian Beef ($16.95).

“There’s a universal appeal with these dishes that many people are accustomed to and may have had before, and they’re really good,” Matsuno explains. “We’ve taken some of these favorites and included them in some of our special offers available through Chinese New Year.”

For example, the Lunch Party Menu ($10.95 per person) includes spicy Mongolian beef or beef and broccoli with chicken salad with Oriental dressing, four types of dim sum, General’s chicken, stir-fried assorted vegetables, seafood fried rice and almond float. To receive this special offer, parties must have a minimum of 10 persons (a one day advanced reservation is needed).

The Dinner Party Menu is priced at $24.95 per person and features honey-glazed walnut shrimp and country-style crab with Oriental chicken salad, bacon wrap with shrimp and scallop, General Tso’s Favorite Chicken, sauteed seasonal vegetable, steamed rice, and mango pudding for dessert.

For those who prefer an earlier start to their meal, the Early Dinner Special ($13.95) is offered daily from 5 to 7 p.m.; and includes the soup of the day, house salad, steamed rice and dessert, with choice of Mongolian beef, mushroom chicken or sweet and spicy mahi mahi.
